Introducing our in-house photographer, Janette Downie. Although the weddings at the Chapel are lightning speed, we want you to have memories that last a lifetime. That’s why each of our packages feature photo coverage from the best. Janette has seen dozens of couples get married and focuses on showing off who you are so you can celebrate your love loudly. She has an eye for shooting moments that tell a deeper story and the ability to make couples feel relaxed and at ease during their session. Each photo is just as unique as the newlyweds themselves, reflecting their personal experiences and emotions of the big day. Keep reading to learn a little bit more about Janette Downie.

Tell us a little about yourself, how long you’ve been working in the industry and your business.

I have been a photographer for seven years. I started my business in Ontario and moved to Nova Scotia nearly two years ago, where I’ve been able to continue working. I first met Sarah about three to four years ago when I came out to Nova Scotia to shoot a wedding for a friend. Sarah was the officiant, and it was love at first sight for me. I loved her business and what she was building. Her energy was contagious! She cried at their wedding, and I loved her genuine nature. That’s why when I saw that she was hiring for the Chapel, I had to reach out right away and jump on the opportunity.

What do you love about working in the wedding industry?

I love weddings so much. I love how couples get to show off who they are and celebrate their love in the way that suits them best. I love the quiet moments that happen on a wedding day - the little looks, the hand squeezes, the hugs that bring on tears. I love it all. I am particularly drawn to small weddings because they are stress-free, genuine and always hit you in the heart in all the best ways.

If you could design a Chapel, what theme would you pick?

This is such a fun question! My chapel design would be pretty close to Sarah’s but probably a bit more outrageous. I love all things glitter, faux fur and animal print, so it would definitely be over the top.

How is the Chapel unique to other venues?

The Chapel provides such a unique opportunity for couples to truly live out their day their way. I have yet to see another place where couples can come and focus on what matters the most - their love and the celebration of getting married. The Chapel does away with the fuss of unnecessary details and just instantly makes everyone at ease. Seeing each and every couple come in relaxed, happy and leaving that way (just married now!) is truly incredible.
