Vendor Spotlight: Two Birds One Stone Farm

We have Sarah and Kenny Macalpine of Two Birds One Stone in our vendor spotlight. Friends of The Wolfville Wedding Chapel for some time, we are fortunate enough to work with them often. Their farm, nestled in Hall’s Harbour, has been pumping out beautiful organic blooms for the Valley and the rest of Nova Scotia for the past five years, and they’re not slowing down anytime soon. You can also find them at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market with huge smiles selling beautiful bouquets, drop into their studio on Fridays, or sign up for flower subscriptions to have fresh blooms all season. If you’re lucky enough to get this duo on your wedding day, you will not be sorry! Keep reading to learn a little bit more about one of our favourite florists in Nova Scotia.

A little bit about Two Birds One Stone

Hi there! I’m Sarah Macalpine, and my husband Kenny and I are first-generation farmers. Five years ago, we quit our jobs and moved to our small acreage located in Hall’s Harbour after leaving the suburbs of Dundas, Ontario. We always and a kickass garden at home, but we both worked full-time jobs and felt like we never had enough time with our hands in the soil. Now we grow flowers on over 2 acres of land, which is something we would’ve never dreamed of!

For me, growing flowers for a living meant I could combine my drive to be creative and spend time outside nurturing and harvesting beautiful things. In the beginning, I was actually so nervous about dipping my toes in the wedding industry. But now it’s a main part of our business, and I’m always the most excited about the days spent designing wedding flowers!

What do you love about working in the wedding industry?

One of my favourite things about growing flowers is that we get to showcase the seasons in our wedding work. For instance, if you get married in June, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll see peonies in your arrangements. I love the fact that when your anniversary rolls around each year, those peonies will be in bloom again. My hope is that we can create something really special for you on your wedding day and give you a lasting memory tied to when those flowers come into season again. Brides and grooms, take note of this! Surprising your spouse on your anniversary with the flowers reminiscent of your wedding arrangements is a really smooth move. (You’re welcome ;) ).

It sounds cheesy, but I really do love, love. I feel so honoured to be included in your special day. We put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into each and every stem that comes from our farm so they can be the best for you on your biggest days. It’s a pretty big deal.

If you could design a Chapel, what theme would you pick?

The Chapel is such a modern, classy and fun space, and I think your flowers should reflect that vibe. Pastel pink and peach with a touch of blue are so pretty in spring. Maybe something with a bit of coral, apricot, blush and butter yellow for the summer months. I love creating modern fall palettes with tones in wine, persimmon, salmon and cream with extra little treasures from the garden like seed pods, grains and grasses.

How is the Chapel unique to other venues?

The Chapel is perfect for anyone looking to express and share their love in a really romantic and genuine way. It’s a type of wedding that focuses on what matters most, and because of that, it’s really special. Besides the four walls of the Chapel and all the love and thoughtfulness behind it, Wolfville is an amazing place to spend your wedding day and night. There are endless photo opportunities, incredible restaurants and accommodations.
